Your Pet's Skin: There's A Lot to Cover!
Let's Make Sure Your Pet is Healthy All Over
September is when kids go back to school and finally, you have a chance to relax. Who wants to join you? Your pet! While you’re snuggling with your furry friend, you may feel a bump or rash on their skin. What should you do?
Your pet may have bumps, lumps, missing fur, a black spot or a funny-looking toenail. Or perhaps you’ve noticed them biting or scratching at themselves more than they should. Are these things something of concern?
For most of us pet owners, it’s tough to know what skin issues are ok and what needs further evaluation. Missing fur may be from a lost battle with a housemate. A black spot may be a tick. A rash may indicate a food allergy. A little bump may be cancer. Skin is the largest organ of the body, and there’s a lot to cover! That’s why a yearly checkup is vital to your pet’s health. When you bring your pet in for their wellness exam, we’ll assess every part of them, from nose to tail—including their skin. We’re here to make sure your pet is healthy and stays that way!
If your pet has already had their yearly wellness exam —and you have questions about their skin, just give us a call. We will be happy to schedule an appointment and get them on in!
There are six main categories of dermatitis we veterinarians have to consider whenever a cat or dog skin problem -- or "skin case" -- is presented. Most skin and coat abnormalities can be defined by or placed in one of the following categories—and it’s up to us as Veterinarians to get your pet diagnosed and feeling better right away.
Curious about what might be causing your pet to lick, scratch and bite? Well, now that there’s a little peace and quiet at home with the kids back at school, it’s a great time to schedule that yearly exam. We’ll perform a thorough skin check and a few other easy tests if needed to keep your pet happy, healthy and a part of your family for a long, long time.
