Carey Wasem, DVM

Dr. Wasem, a native of Aberdeen, South Dakota, is a 1990 graduate in veterinary medicine from the University of Minnesota. After four years as a practicing veterinarian in California, he moved to the Zionsville area.

Dr. Wasem is currently chief veterinarian at the Zionsville Animal Hospital. His professional areas of special interest are canine and feline internal medicine, soft tissue injuries, and orthopedic surgery. Dr. Wasem has also hosted a weekly radio show, The Pet Doctor, on Indy station WIBC.

Dr. Wasem and his wife, Tracey, also a veterinarian, are the parents of a son and daughter. They are also proud owners of Guiness, their Labrador Retriever.

Daniel Genatiempo, DVMDaniel Genatiempo, DVM

Dr. Genatiempo, a native of Albany, New York , grew up in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He received his B.S. in biology from Butler University in 1997. He then spent two years in graduate school at Texas A & M University before starting Veterinary school there. He earned his DVM in 2003, and then returned to Indiana where he completed a one year internship with Noah's Animal Hospitals.

Dr. Genatiempo has been with Zionsville Animal Hospital since August of 2004. His main veterinary interest is internal medicine. Dr. Genatiempo lives in Indianapolis with his wife Nancy, their son, Max, and their miniature schnauzers, Duncan and Doogie, and cats Merlin & Vader.


Ann Clayton, DVMAnne Clayton, DVM

Born and raised in northern Indiana, Dr. Clayton graduated from Depauw University then received her veterinary degree from Purdue. She joined the Zionsville Animal Hospital in 2004.

Dr. Clayton and husband, Ross, also a veterinarian, are the busy parents of 3 young sons. They also share their home with 3 dogs, 4 cats and 3 precocious llamas. Dr. Clayton enjoys “anything having to do with the outdoors”, which includes caring for her large menagerie and traveling.


Valerie Detwiler, DVMValerie Detwiler, DVM
A Vincennes native, Dr. Detwiler received her undergraduate degree in animal science from Purdue then graduated from Purdue Veterinary School in 2000. She joined the Zionsville Animal Hospital in 2002.

Dr. Detwiler and husband, Lenn, are the parents of both a daughter and son. They also share their home with their golden retriever, Nala. When time permits, Dr. Detwiler enjoys her hobbies of scrapbooking and cooking.


Julie Diem, DVM

Joining Zionsville Animal Hospital in 2007, Dr. Julie Diem is a Purdue University School of Veterinary Medicine graduate with extensive expertise in canine and feline medicine.

An Augustana College undergraduate, Dr. Diem and husband, Ryan, are Zionsville residents along with their two English mastiffs, MacKenzie and Gertrude. She enjoys biking, weight training and cooking when not at work and occasionally gets away for traveling to exotic lands.

Patti Ferguson, Office ManagerPatti Ferguson, Office Manager
That cheerful face you see most every time you visit belongs to office manager, Patti Ferguson. Patti joined the Zionsville Animal Hospital in 2001 and is now responsible for day to day operations.

In her free time, Patti enjoys reading and spending time with her family, especially her college-age daughter. Patti also cares for an ever-changing collection of cats and dogs at her home
